History of the Ministry

The Taraba State Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning was established to oversee the financial management and economic development of the state. Since its inception, the ministry has played a pivotal role in the strategic allocation of public resources, ensuring that the state’s economic activities align with long-term development goals.

Early Years

The ministry was created following the establishment of Taraba State in 1991, with a mandate to manage the state’s fiscal policies and provide oversight for revenue generation and expenditure. In its early years, the ministry focused on building the foundational structures necessary for effective financial management, including the development of an annual budgeting process, revenue mobilization strategies, and public expenditure management systems.

Expansion and Reforms

Over the years, the ministry expanded its role to include not only financial management but also comprehensive economic planning and the coordination of development initiatives. In response to the state’s growing economy and the need for enhanced fiscal accountability, various reforms were implemented to modernize the ministry’s processes, including the introduction of digital platforms for budget tracking, improved revenue collection mechanisms, and transparent procurement practices.

Present-Day Mandate

Today, the Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning is a central player in shaping the economic direction of Taraba State. The ministry ensures the efficient use of public funds, formulates sound financial policies, and drives sustainable economic growth through strategic planning and public engagement. It is responsible for preparing and executing the state’s annual budget, monitoring financial performance, and implementing initiatives that support the state’s economic goals.

The ministry’s efforts continue to focus on promoting transparency, improving fiscal responsibility, and fostering economic growth, positioning Taraba State for long-term prosperity and development.
